ABOUT US
Trailblazin' the Craft Scene Since 2007
Etsy Dallas, the original Dallas team and the first city team in Texas, is a cooperative craft collective of artists and designers living and working in Dallas who sell their wares on Etsy,
the web's premiere marketplace for all things hip and handmade. Etsy
Dallas boasts talent from a range of mediums and crafts, and is
independently run by its members.
Because of the determination of the original members, Etsy Dallas has
become a force in the handmade movement, both locally and beyond. In
the wake of Etsy Dallas' inception in 2007, other Texas teams have
formed including Etsy Austin, Alamo City Etsy, Etsy Fort Worth,
Northeast Texas Etsy, Artisans of Houston and North Dallas Etsy. More than two
years later, Etsy Dallas continues to be the model as a leader in the
art/craft scene.
Mission
The mission of Etsy Dallas is
to promote the handmade
movement, and to create an environment to buy and sell handmade goods
in the Greater Dallas area.
Goals
> To promote each others' goods by selling locally in the Greater Dallas area.
> To promote awareness of the handmade movement and indie lifestyle, with a focus on our Etsy shops.
> To act as a cooperative resource and support network for each others' businesses.
History
Etsy Dallas was founded in September 2007 by a handful of
local artists and crafters, including current leaders Stephanie
Hindall, Pamela
Michelle and Carrie Partch. Eager to spread the handmade movement
across the Metroplex, ED leaders organize two local craft shows, the Handmade Bash, that
have garnered city-wide support and national credibility.
Etsy Dallas has transformed itself over the years into a tight-knit
collaborative group that supports each other's handmade endeavors through friendship and camaraderie.
FAQs
What is Etsy Dallas?
Etsy Dallas is a local craft collective run by a juried group of crafters, artists and designers in Dallas who sell their wares on Etsy.com.
Are you the same as Etsy?
NO. We are a local craft collective. Our only affiliation with Etsy is that we all own Etsy shops and have the blessing of Etsy as being the official team for the Dallas metroplex. Based in Brooklyn, Etsy is an international online marketplace for all things handmade. To learn more, visit www.etsy.com.
How do I join?
2010 membership is closed for the year. Membership into Etsy Dallas is a juried process. Members are selected by a panel of current Etsy Dallas members that look for quality work, superior craftsmanship, unique products, community involvement, online presentation, etc. We select a wide range and variety of local talent to showcase the best of Dallas' artists.
Why do you limit the number of members?
Running a craft collective is a lot of work and all of our leaders have "real" jobs, in addition to designing and managing their own handmade businesses. In order to make Etsy Dallas the very best it can be with a base of active members, the team voted to limit membership.
But I still want to be involved with your group. What can I do?
Etsy Dallas members get first pick for the Jingle Bash and Spring Bash, and any remaining spots are open to non-members who wish to apply as a vendor. Local artists, crafters and related businesses are also welcome to sponsor the events or send in handmade promos for our 50 free goody bags and raffle that we offer at our Bashes. These are great marketing tools for promoting your business to hundreds of Dallas shoppers. Visit the Handmade Bash web site to learn more.
How many shows do you do each year?
Etsy Dallas hosts two trademark shows: the Spring Bash and the Jingle Bash. In 2008, Etsy Dallas hosted the first ever trunk show of its kind known as the Beer-B-Q. The team offered free burgers and beer, live music, and nearly 40 booths of local handmade art and designs. Visit Etsy Dallas' Flickr page to see photos of past events.
How do I contact you?
Feel free to shoot us an email. Someone will get back to you as soon as possible. Please note: we won't be accepting new members until early 2011. For information on the Handmade Bash, click here.
Who runs Etsy Dallas?
Etsy Dallas is run by a group of 8 volunteers known as the Leadership Team. Founder Stephanie of Tefi Designs and original member Pam of Pamela Michelle lead the team.
