What to Do and See at Dallas Arts Month 2022

Dallas Arts Month was first launched as Dallas Arts Week in 2013. It is a city-wide celebration of Dallas arts and is held annually in the month of April. Arts Month is designed to build awareness and appreciation for the work of Dallas artists and organizations and foster creative learning and activity throughout the city. Residents and visitors are encouraged to participate in events and programming offered by art and cultural institutions from all disciplines.

Dallas Arts Month is a collaboration of city-wide arts and culture organizations:

Below are some of our favorite events spanning art, ballet, craft, and culture that are sure to inspire and delight this month!

  • The Meadows Museum presents the work of Spanish conceptual artist Ignasi Aballí (b. 1958), who is representing Spain at the 59th Venice Biennale this spring. Palabras Vacías (Empty Words) (2020), confronts the viewer with 27 individual, galvanized iron plates into which are cut adjectives that reference being invisible or forgotten—thereby imbuing the negative space with meaning; what he refers to (both literally and figuratively) as “empty words.” The resulting tension between the form and meaning of the words creates a dialogue between language and image, between signified and signifier. text goes here

  • In April of 2022, five cultural centers of the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture (OAC), Bath House Cultural Center, Latino Cultural Center, Moody Performance Hall, Oak Cliff Cultural Center, and South Dallas Cultural Center, present the 2022 ART214 Juried Exhibition, a multi-venue visual arts project that showcases the works of artists who live in Dallas and the greater North Texas region.

Through this exhibition, OAC hopes to discover and develop relationships with new artists, provide opportunities for artists to exhibit their work for the first time in one of our cultural centers or for the first time ever, and give artists who have previously exhibited at one cultural center an opportunity to show their work at a different center.

  • Weekly studio art class for kids who love ART! Students learn about historical relevance and creative possibilities through a combination of structured learning and independent thinking. While developing their technical skills, students experience working in the styles of artists and art movements from ancient history to present day. We will explore lots of different art mediums - draw, paint, sculpt, collage, print, as well as their tools and techniques. Students keep a sketchbook for original ideas and observational drawings.
