We live in an age in which information is at our fingertips - movie reviews, product reviews, music reviews. But so much of it is broad-based, national reviews provided by professional critics, folks who are paid to critique.
Yelp has taken this concept and applied it to the local level by offering the consumer a platform to voice opinions about restaurants, clubs, shops, and more! These reviews are categorized by city, targeting a grassroots-style movement of consumer-driven reviews.
Need a restaurant recommendation or want to read a "real" review by a non-professional critic? Check!
Maybe you’re visiting a particular city and want a recommendation for the best "local flavor" places to shop. Check!
Perhaps you’re looking for a spa or bar with a fair-priced brew and some non-chain ambiance. Check!
You’ll find most of the big Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex locations, as well as a lot of smaller, independent favorites. Bookmark Yelp and make it your favorite guide to the best of the best.

Furoshiki is a special cloth that originated in Japan that is used over and over to wrap gifts and plenty of other goodies.
These can be made out of any kind of fabric -- any fiber, solid or patterned. The most common sizes are 17.7" wide by 26.7-28.3" tall. You can even make your own furoshiki using this tutorial and watch a video on how to wrap it up. For beginners a square shape is suggested -- it's easy to experiment with a bandana. Check out this guide to how to tie your own furoshiki.
Furoshiki means "bath spread" in Japanese. It is thought that these were originally used to bundle up clothes and personal items during the time of the public bath house. Over the years people began using the furoshiki for gift wrap, groceries, carrying books, purses, and accessories. Use of the furoshiki declined dramatically because of the popularity of plastic bags. There has been a renewed interested in furoshiki since it can help reduce our use of plastic and paper bags and reduce our impact on the earth.

Holy cow holy cow!! Our Bash shows were just voted as Dallas' "Best One-Stop Shop" in the coveted and uber popular Dallas Observer's Best Of annual issue. It's on stands today!!
This is a huge. mega. deal. Here's the write-up:
Sure etsy.com—the online boutique community for crafters, jewelry designers, knitters, tailors, bookbinders, vintage sellers and collectors of everything—is a surefire way to kill an afternoon and build up a wish list, but an Etsy Dallas event is even better. Prices are great, the craftsmanship is fantastic, it feels good to support local crafters and you'll still cover everyone on any gift list you might have for the next two years. But the downside is you'll also empty your bank account with little to no effort without some preventive measures. We have a friend keep us from purchasing on the first lap through the show. We spend only cash (even if a booth takes cards). And we buy no more than we can carry on our own person. It's hard, but, well, you gotta leave something for the rest of the shoppers to look at. On the other hand, screw everyone else, retail therapy rocks! The Etsy Dallas Jingle Bash takes place November 21 at Sons of Hermann Hall. Sharp elbows stimulate the economy, people.
Mega super duper sweet congrats to Hannah from Fort Worth, Texas! She is the winner of the Etsy Dallas 2nd Birthday giveaway, organized by Patricia of Karmacrochet.
Hannah commented that her favorite items were the beautiful crochet designs by giveaway participant Anne of Modest Ambition. Anne donated two crocheted button pins to the big basket of goodies.
Hannah will receive everything listed HERE. What a lucky gal!
Big thanks to Heather of design roots for getting our official Jingle Bash poster printed and delivered. With her precious little 3-month-old ball of wonder in tow, Heather dropped off a pack of 11x7 posters (designed by artist and Bash co-organizer, Pamela Michelle) and I screamed for joy when I saw how beautifully they turned out. High fives all around!
*ATTENTION LOCAL SHOP OWNERS* Want to show your support for local art and craft talent? Then why not hang our poster in your shop window. Contact us for more details. And thanks!
